CONSTRUCTION OF CHEMICAL EARTHINGS

The Chemical Earthings have two parts:

a. Earth Electrodes

b. Backfill Compound or Earthing Chemicals

The earth electrodes may vary in diameter, length, thickness of primary conductor, the filled materials between primary and secondary conductor and also metals of outer pipe i.e. secondary conductor. Mostly, the outer pipe plays role in life, but the chemical surrounding the electrode ( Backfill compound) plays important role in earthing performance i.e. Earthing Resistance.

The outer pipe is generally acceptable as GI pipe only however, the life of earthings depends upon the thickness of Pipe. The minimum acceptable thickness is 1.6 mm and 3E manufacturers earthing in pipes not below 1.6 mm. The primary conductor cross section area determine the minimum fault level of the earthing and help to achieve thermal stability.

Advantages of Chemical earthings ( Benefits)

The conventional earthings use Salt which deterioate the plate or earthing materials very fast. Moreover, as per latest studies the interfering hemisphere of earthings do not change with change with width and hence the Linear length support more to increase the electrical performance than the width or diameter. The diameter has, however, role due to lower current density which increase the capacity of discharging fault current continuously without increasing the surrounding temperature much.

The chemical earthings are easy to install and comparatively cheaper to plate type in totality, though wrong choice of supplier lead to improper earthing chemical which fail the earthing due to not bonding with mother earth and electrode simultaneously.
